10 Best Cheap Accommodations in Sydney

For the past few weeks, I’ve been doing research for a trip to Sydney, Australia and I’ve come to one conclusion: it’s expensive! My nieces’ school choir is participating in an event in Sydney from July 5-16 and in particular I’ve been looking for accommodations that are central, well-reviewed, and at the same time affordable. It was not easy! Nevertheless, I’ve managed to put together this little list of the best cheap accommodations in Sydney. There are 10 places on this list and they will be categorized as follows:

• The Best: These are the places that have the highest ratings in both Booking.com and TripAdvisor but still cost less than P2,000 per night.
• Good and Cheap: In between the best and the cheapest, these hostels are around PHP 1,500 per night and have ratings of at least 4/5 in TripAdvisor and at least 8/10 in Booking.com.
• The Cheapest: Among the properties that cost PHP 1,000 per night or lower, these are the ones that have acceptable ratings in both Booking.com and TripAdvisor. Acceptable, in this case, means some people like them and some people don’t. 50-50. If you’re a bit arte, I wouldn’t recommend staying here because I don’t want you to hate me. 😛
• Private Rooms: It goes without saying that the hostels will be the most affordable option for accommodations, but if you’re the type of person who can’t imagine staying in a room with people you don’t know, there are still some relatively affordable options for you in the PHP 2,800-3,400 range.

Want a quick recommendation? Go with The Pod Sydney. It’s where I’m personally staying (along with my family) this June. It’s new, it’s got great reviews, it’s central, it accepts children and over-35s, and while it’s not exactly dirt-cheap, it’s quite affordable, all things considered.

The price for 11 nights is for a check-in date of July 5 and a check-out date of July 16. To be included in this list, each property must have a review score of Good (7+) or higher at Booking.com.
