The majestic Casaroro Falls is in the municipality of Valencia, Negros Oriental, around 9 km from Dumaguete City. The waterfalls are rather narrow but high; I remember standing near the base of the falls, looking up at the surrounding wall of towering dark rock, and feeling a sense of both communion and isolation. I lived in Dumaguete for a year, for internship, and my visit to Casaroro was a beautiful way to cap it off.

The descent to the base of the falls is fairly easy, through a set of stairs totaling over 300 steps. It’s the climb back up that’s hell on the lungs and muscles! Best done with friends who will cheerfully huff and puff along with you.
