Cam Treo! (Whatever That Means)

In a world with Google Translate, it seems rather silly to still not know what this sign — seen near a construction site in Ho Chi Minh in 2009 — was telling us passing pedestrians. But I like the image for itself: the urgency of the lightning bolt and the exclamation point, the strange symbols on top of the vowels, the red and black on white, the rusty orange scaffolding against the blue sky. Some things are universal, if not totally translatable, and there’s a part of me that just doesn’t want to know.
